Dogs Available for Adoption
Currently, all of our available animals are listed on Petfinder. Please click the link to see a list of our adoptable dogs.
We have cats and kittens available in the Adoption Center at PetSmart in Vestal. All of our dogs are placed with foster homes around the Broome County area. Life Long Tails volunteers are currently available to provide applications and answer questions on Thursday and Friday evenings, as well as all day Saturday and Sunday.
PetSmart offers several adoption events throughout the year. On these weekends, you will have an opportunity to meet some of our dogs on site at PetSmart. Please check our calendar for upcoming events. Pets currently in foster homes with members of our rescue can be seen by appointment, once an application has been approved.
How to Apply
If you are interested in one of our dogs and would like to complete an application, it is available for download. You may also request one via email from Jenn, or pick up a paper copy at PetSmart in the Adoption Center. If a Life Long Tails representative is not available, please ask a PetSmart associate for assistance.
Completed applications can be submitted via email, or left in the PetSmart Adoption Center.
Your New Pet
Once your application is received, a representative of Life Long Tails will contact your veterinarian, personal reference, and landlord to verify the information you provided. A home visit is also required to ensure that we are sending the animal to a safe, happy, healthy environment.
We always strive to locate the best match between our animals and their potential new homes. This means that unfortunately, even if your application is approved, you may not be able to take home the dog of your choice. You will, however, be offered the opportunity to adopt another one of our dogs.
Our adoption fees vary depending on the dog but are typically $300 or less. Included in this fee: spay/neuter, required vaccination, micro-chipping, and heartworm and flea treatment.
Rehoming Your Pet
We are currently unable to accept owner surrenders, do to space limitations in our foster homes. If your dog needs a new home, please consider posting an ad in the pets sections of your local Craigslist, or on Petfinder. If these options don't work for you, we can place you on our waiting list and notify you if space becomes available.
